Computers and the Internet

Many people use computers and the Internet as a way of communicating and working . We are going to do some activities to expand our vocabulary related to computing.


Activity one: Read and listen to the list of words that appear in the following link .

Activity two: Then do the exercise below the list.



Activity three: In groups, think about and write down three reasons why we use computers, two advantages and two disadvantages of computers.  You can read this material to pick up ideas:

Advantages and Disadvantages of Computers

Use Google translator if you have problems with some vocabulary

Activity four :  Competition! Let's have fun challenging our 
puzzle solving skills. Print the puzzle and solve it. 


Activity five:   Time to write. There is a digital gap between adults and young people. Write a paragraph in a Word document answering these questions:
1. Have your parents and your grandparents ever used a computer?
2- When and why?
3- Is your attitude to computers different from your parents' and granparents'? Explain.


Activity six:We need pictures or posters to illustrate computing vocabulary in the computing room. Go to this link where there are lots of words and pictures. Organize in groups to decide which group will illustrate the different words. Open a Word document and pick up pictures from Google images.

Conditional sentences


Zero Conditional describes what happens in general.

For example : If you sit in the sun for a long time, you get burned (here I'm talking about every time a person sits in the sun - the burning is a natural consequence of the sitting)



Activity ONE Complete the zero conditional sentences with the verb in brackets. Use contractions where possible. Link 


First Conditional describes things  that I think are likely to happen in the future. There is a real possibility that this condition will happen. It is used for real possibility

For example : If she studies harder, she'll pass the exam (the teacher thinks it is possible she will study harder and so she'll pass)

Activity TWO Put the correct form of each verb in brackets into the box. LINK

Second Conditional talks about things that I don't think will really happen. It's subjective; it depends on my point of view. 

For example : If she studied harder, she would pass the exam ( the teacher  thinks that she won't study harder, or it's very unlikely, and so she won't pass)

Activity FIVE: Time for music! Put on your headphones, listen to the song below and take notes of the conditional sentences that appear in the video. Be ready to say if they are first or second conditional sentences.
